Camel Lot Estate offers three large-format wine bottles – the Magnum (1.5 litres), Jeroboam (3 litres) and Methuselah (6 litres).
They’re named after biblical kings and historical figures, all the way up to the Melchoir at 18 litres.
Besides looking sensational, these bottles also enhance the wine’s ageing potential. Compared with a typical 750ml bottle, less oxygen is trapped relative to the volume of wine. This allows the wine to oxidise more slowly, developing aroma and flavour whilst cellaring for longer periods.
Large-format bottles are also more resistant to temperature fluctuations that can harm a smaller bottle of wine.
